Every Directed Study enrollment begins here: one paid session with the instructor we've matched to you. It's not a trial, and it's not a sales call. It's the first real work — and you keep what it produces.
What you walk away with
- A working read on your level. Your instructor establishes your real proficiency — not a self-guess, an assessment.
- A written Plan of Action. Where you're starting, where you're going, and how the sessions get you there. It's yours to keep, whether or not you enroll.
- The right instructor, already chosen. We match you based on your goals, level, and how you learn. If the fit isn't right, we'll rematch you at no cost.
- Rapport with a real teacher. The relationship the rest of the program runs on starts in this session.
Common questions
Is the $100 an extra cost?
No. If you enroll, it's credited in full toward your first month's tuition. A committed student experiences it as free; it simply makes sure the fit is right before anyone commits to a monthly program.
What if I don't enroll after?
You still keep your written Plan of Action. There's no obligation to continue, and no pressure in the session.
Spanish or English?
Both. Directed Study runs in either language. You'll tell us which when you book, and we match you accordingly.
Can I choose my own instructor?
Matching is ALC's decision — it's the core of what Directed Study is. If a match isn't right, we rematch you for free, as many times as it takes.
