This is Brian Smith and I just wanted to drop a line to let you know what I am doing. I have been living in Da Nang, Vietnam and teaching English for the past 4 months. English teaching jobs are abundant here and fairly easy to get. Not as many are available as in Saigon or Hanoi, but they are available. I am enjoying the experience so far and wanted to say thanks for the opportunity to get my TEFL certificate.
I just wanted to update you on my status since I told y'all I'd be in touch.
So I am now into my second month teaching in Busan, Korea at 2 different elementary schools. I feel like I have died and gone to the afterlife because it is so incredible to me that I am finally here doing what I've been dreaming of. While I was hoping to get high or middle school students, I am greatly enjoying the challenges and perks of teaching 3rd-6th grade English classes in Korea. I have to go VERY slow but I don't get bombarded with impossible questions and my kids are absolutely wonderful.
I wanted to let y'all know how much I appreciate the things TEFL Academy at the Arizona Language Center taught me (especially Patty's advice on TRUE beginners...), even though much of the material we teach is highly standardized and prescribed English, I am finding ways to sneak in the valuable language concepts that I myself was unaware of until I took your TEFL certification class. Moreover, I was clearly head and shoulders above the folks who got those online crackerjack-certifications and I feel like both of my schools greatly appreciate my presence and expertise despite this being my first time teaching. Once again I can't thank you guys enough and I wish you all the best! I'll send some pictures eventually of my classes if I don't forget!!
Take care and be well,
